Welcome to the web site of the Daughters of the British Empire in Florida.
QUEEN ELIZABETH I DIAMOND JUBILEE 2012 was celebrated by SANDRINGAM CHAPTER ON JUNE 2 -- click on Things To Enjoy for photos
Florida was organised in 1910, and our website was started in July 2010 to commemorate our 100 years of service to our Cause, our communities, and our ‘fun in the sun.’
We warmly welcome all women of British or Commonwealth birth or ancestry, and wives of men born in Britain or the Commonwealth. Junior membership is available for eligible girls age 13 to 18 years of age.
We are a charitable, non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian, voluntary American national society.
What we do nationally: The primary aim of the D.B.E. is the support of four regional retirement homes for men and women of all nationalities who are citizens or residents of the United States. Florida is part of the D.B.E. Southern District and our District Home is Mountbatten House in Texas, providing assisted living and respite care. Click on About Us to see photographs.
What we do locally:Our ‘fun in the sun’ aim mixes fund-raising with good fellowship so that while we help people we have a great time! At monthly local chapter meetings, often in members' homes, we exchange ideas and interests in a friendly, homelike atmosphere. We organise social functions and encourage friends and husbands to attend our events. Our fund-raising not only supports Mountbatten House seniors, we also donate money and services to many local charities.
Each chapter has input to our monthly State Board meetings, where strategies and activities can be discussed and co-ordinated for even greater effectiveness.
Come and join us! Have you heard of Marmite? Beans on toast? Spotted Dick? Toad-in-the-Hole? Seen (or heard your mother describe) bluebell woods? Eaten (or heard of) jam butties?
If you answered ‘Yes’ to any one of those questions you are likely eligible to be a member! Click on Contact to see if there is a chapter near you.
We welcome new members, so if deep down under that Florida tan you have a tie to Britain, please give us a call and come along to a meeting or two and get to know us.
You’ll be sure to receive a warm welcome and we’d love you to become a part of a friendly group of ladies of all ages working together to help others
Please join us, we look forward very much to meeting you.
